Volunteering - get involved!

'I’ve been volunteering for the Anchor Project for three years. As a volunteer I get an amazing home cooked meal made to expert standards by young people who assist (or rather run) the cooking. I also get to perfect my skills in table tennis and mini football, learn bits of languages and things about different  cultures and countries I would otherwise have to spend hours on the internet researching. I volunteer mostly because talking to the young people and the other volunteers makes me laugh a lot.

I’ve learnt magic tricks, numerous card and board games, gone climbing, spent amazing residentials in the countryside, been boxing, picnicking in the park and capoira-ing all through Anchor. The enjoyment I get out of it is magnified because it is clear that the young people I spend time with are getting equally much out of the activities, the conversation and the opportunity to talk freely and spend time being young people rather than asylum seekers.

Sharing music, jokes, insights and food  with young people who have so much to offer has expanded my horizons as well as (I hope) theirs.'
