The Anchor Project is shortlisted for The Guardian Charity of the Year Awards

 

The Team

The Anchor Project is open every Saturday from 2pm to 6pm. The project is currently run by a Coordinator working 12hours a week.

Salwa Chowdhury- Coordinator

Salwa begun work at the Anchor Project in July 2010. She has a Law background and has had known the project for many years prior through her involvment in Refugee Youth.

The Trustees

Jessica Leeman a founding member. Jessica is undertaking a Masters in Social Work at the University of Salford.

Jennifer Whyte a founding member. Jennifer works in Refugee Services at the British Red Cross as well as in Marketing at the Medical Foundation. In Anchor she does a bit of everything including offering supervision to the co-ordinator and hunting for new funding streams.

Stephen Nash joined the project as Trustee in July 08. Stephen works in Communications at the Prisons Advice and Care Trust. In Anchor, he specialises in hunting for new funding and report writing.

Alessandro Di Capua joined the project as Trustee in July 08. Alessandro works at the International Theater Company but has a law background, having trained for many years in Italy. He keeps the project up to date with the Charity Commission and makes sure we obey the law!

Peter Mwangi (The Chair) joined as Trustee in July 08. Peter attended the project as a young person in 2006, seeking asylum from Kenya. In April 2008, Peter was granted Refugee status and was able to resume his Accountancy degree at Greenwich University. He begun volunteering at the project in 2007 and is now responsible for keeping our petty cash in order and organising summer residentials.

Aida Diop a founding member. Aida is currently working for UNHCR in Chad.
