The Anchor Project is shortlisted for The Guardian Charity of the Year Awards

Our Objectives

The Anchor Project is registered charity working with London-based unaccompanied asylum applicants aged 10 to 17 years old. By adopting a holistic approach, consulting with young people and devising a creative programme of activities, the project provides a safe space in which young people can develop confidence, self-esteem and make friends. The project is currently funded by BBC Children In Need. The Anchor Project aims:

  • To sustain the personal development of young asylum seekers living a new life in London without parents, siblings and familiar structures
  • To facilitate the integration of young asylum applicants into the local community and encourage their spirit of initiative
  • To promote an understanding of asylum and refugee issues amongst local communities.

The Anchor Project offers a voice for young asylum applicants, and offers them a platform to communicate and share their experiences. The variety of cultures and background of those attending the workshops gives the opportunity to comprehend differences and foster respect and tolerance. The Anchor Project represents the strengths and positive aspects of multiculturalism, as a counterpart to the negative portrayal of asylum.
